At The End Of The Story, The Flamingos Fly And The Pumpkin Grows Legs To Walk By Itself!
Hey guys! I hope all is well! I thought I would hop over on the blog today and do what I do best, chat! Lately, I have been super busy and I am not mad about it at all! Sometimes I work better when I have a lot to do and sometimes I work better when I have nothing to do at all! I don't exactly know what that means but blame it on the artist in me ok? Anyways, I was chatting with an old friend about how they were holding up with life post-grad and they said they felt like they didn't know what they were doing, but most importantly, they hate what they were doing! I was a little taken aback because from what I could tell they seemed to really be enjoying lie but once again I think it all boils down to the trick of social media and
faking it til you make it persona that most Millenials have accumulated! I am pretty sure if you are around the same age as me, 28, then you may know this story all too well.
Sigh.....Anyways...
The more we chatted the more I started to realize that my friend was terribly miserable and really wanted to do something else with their life. I decided to interrupt the conversation to politely ask
well why won't you do something else? Why won't you switch your career path? And for a split second, the phone call became so quiet that I thought the call had dropped. My friend quietly responded with, "
It's not that easy, I have bills, responsibilities, and most importantly, I don't know how to do anything else". And it was then that it hit me, we were in the neck of adulthood and if you make such rash decisions then there are big consequences such as not being able to provide for oneself and a sleuth of other unmentionable things. This was real life and changing your career at this point not only requires a massive amount of planning but wisdom as well! How did we get to this point so fast? Was there truly a way out of it all?
Of course, there is! You certainly can't be bound to the same career path that you chose in college, can you? There has to be some other plan in place for the people who want to jump ship and start over without ending up losing everything that you have worked so hard for! I am random by nature which means I like to do 8,000 different things at one time! I love to dance, yoga, teaching, working in coffee shops and a million other things and I honestly couldn't imagine sticking to one task for the rest of my life. Not only does it seem absurd
for me, but it also feels strangely unnatural.
However, I am starting to think about my future a little differently! Like is it truly responsible for me to career hop every few years? Should I already be settled into what I want to do for the rest of my life? All questions do not have a clear answer and that's what makes the unknown so scary!
And even though I do not have the answers to everything but what I do know is that its ok to navigate the unknown and its more than ok to be uncertain about a few things. The humanistic experience is fluid and we will all fly at different phases of our lives. It doesn't matter how you get there as long as you GET THERE! Whew, I don't know who needed to hear this BUT here it is! I guess I'll sign off of the blog today and enjoy me some of this lovely weekend that September has to offer!
Ciao!
