Lipstick Diary: Why Is It SSOOOOOOOO Hard To Find Lipstick That Looks Good On Me!
I recently went lipstick shopping (because I am tired of the colors I have been wearing lately) and decided to pick me up a little shade that I used to wear a long time ago! As a brown-skinned sistah, I must tell you that not only is it difficult finding makeup that matches your skin tone but it is equally as difficult finding a pretty lipstick color as well. Literally, my entire life all I have ever heard is that "oh that's not gonna look good on your skin tone OR red is NOT for you Hunny" and I am beyond over it!
I honestly feel like this is a new day and age where women of color should feel comfortable rocking any color that they would like no matter what their skin complexion is! Black is the most universal color in the world and we ALL know that everything looks amazing on women of color! Point. Blank. Period!
Don't get me wrong, it took me a long time to come to this conclusion about myself and my skin tone. One day I just got really tired of feeling confined in my choices and decided that I would learn to step outside o my comfort zone a little bit! Sometimes you have to be willing to take small risks to see BIG results and I am a firm believer in that! Now I'm not one to normally get persuaded by the masses but since we're living in a time where women are truly embracing their black girl magic I thought well what the heck, let's live it up then! Ha! Now don't get me wrong, don't expect me to be running around here rocking green lipstick but we shall see where this goes! *fingers crossed* Anyway, let's chat about what I actually bought shall we?
As you guys know, I absolutely LOVE Maybelline Matte Super Stay lipstick! Once you apply this stuff I swear you're gonna need blue magic and coconut oil just to remove it off of your lips! I am the type of gal that absolutely NEEDS 12-hour wear because I hate constantly reapplying throughout the day. Not only is it time-consuming but it always leaves this weird cakey look on your lips that nobody likes! That's why this lipstick has been my go-to ever since it was recommended to me a few years back! I have worn this lipstick to events, performances, the movies, and brunches and I swear to you it will never leave your face! I knew this lipstick was a winner when I wore it to an all you can eat seafood joint and it survived all of the lip-smacking, shrimp shucking juices of the evening! Ha!
The shade I decided to go for was in the shade Composer! This is my first time trying this deep of a brown shade and it is totally giving me all of the Fall vibes over here! I have already worn it out for a few days and have received a couple of compliments from a few lovely ladies out in the city! Women don't give compliments easily so I knew I was feeling cute when they said something about it! Ha!
I am absolutely happy that I went with this shade and I plan on buying a few more before it sells out! PS: Can you believe this lipstick was only $8.94 after taxes! I can tell you right now I have purchased highed lipstick for $30 and it didn't last nowhere near as long as this little $10 tube does! What a steal! Anyways, are there any new colors you have thought about trying but didn't because of your skin tone? Let me know in the comments down below!
